Back at the end of Feburary, I wrote about the importance of Arts in our schools and why it is important to support the arts and be an advocate for the arts. This was was in response to a statewide movement here in Kansas in conjunction with Arts Day At The Capitol.
Today and tomorrow (April 8 & 9) is a similar movement on a nationwide scale, the next two days are Art Advocacy Days at the US Capitol.
One of the goals of this year is 50 new members of the STEAM Caucus.
What is STEAM? From the AAD website:
Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) are co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional STEAM Caucus, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
The Caucus aims “to change the vocabulary of education to recognize the benefits of both the arts and sciences—and their intersections—to our country’s future generations. Caucus members will work to increase awareness of the importance of STEAM education and explore new strategies to advocate for STEAM programs.”
So how can you help? It’s easy. Take two minutes and contact your congressmen via this website and urge them to join STEAM. It’s important that we stand up and support the arts.
