The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Monday W.I.P. (Friday edition)

First off I want.to apologize for my lack of on-line presence lately. The screen to my computer recently broke, so while it’s in the shop I’m using other means to stay connected including my phone and tablet, so please bear with me.

As I write this I’ve just finished watching a preview/final dress rehearsal of my local community theater, Hays Community Theater, production of Barbara Robinson’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!. If you’re not familiar with the show or the original book (also by Robinson) let me fill you in on the story. It tells the story of the Herdman’s aka the worst kids in a typical small town and how they cause the staid, typical church Christmas pageant to become the..well the Best Christmas Pageant Ever!

The cast is primarily made up of children with the adults playing supporting roles. And this is a wonderful, delightful production that at the same time challenges us and what our role and the role of The church in general should be toward the less fortunate and those without parents. In other words, it’s right up my alley as a playwright. Theater, especially children’s theater, shouldn’t just be entertainment but should also challenge us as a society.

I know I promised…

I know that I promised I would be more active this week on my website and post my usual Wednesdays With Will and The Friday Free For All, but I”m going to have to cry your pardon this week. I’m going to try and keep my schedule but I have several events coming up in the next few months that may mean I don’t post right when I said I would despite my best efforts. I’m currently acting in and assistant directing an original musical called Bone Wars. I’m also helping with publicity and who knows what else with Heartland Community Theater’s Christmas Show The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

On a side note, you may notice some changes here on the old website. One of the reasons I didn’t get this week’s Wednesday post up was that I was taking some publicity photos. Big thanks to Jen Grey and Special Moments Photography for her outstanding work.
